Down! Assailants 'Silence' UPDF Soldier In Nakaseke

By Our Reporter

In another attack against security persons, assailants have gunned down another UPDF soldier in Kapeeka, Nakaseke district during a gun fire exchange on Saturday night.

These come few days after assailants attacked Gaddafi barracks in Jinja and killed an officer who was guarding the checking point near the barracks’ gate before they took off with two riffles.

UPDF Spokesperson Felix Kulayigye said the Kapeeka incident happened at around 10:30AM when two assailants armed with an AK47 riffle attacked UPDF soldiers on foot patrol in Kikondo cell, Kapeka Town Council killing Private Tufeyo Obed RA/260979.

Kulayigye said the assailants shot dead Obed but his colleagues also fired back on target killing the two attackers and recovered the gun used in the attack.

He stated that no weapon was lost by UPDF in the attack.

Security personnel have since last year been investigating incidents of attacks on police posts and theft of guns.

A number of arrests have been made and the attacks are being linked to a rebel outfit, the Uganda Coalition Forces for Change –UCFC whose alleged commander David Frank Ssemogerere alias Col Ndugwa was arrested and currently battling charges in the General Court Martial.
