The Ruparelia Group is set to play a key role in India Day 2026, joining leading Ugandan and Indian-linked companies in supporting an annual celebration that brings together culture, business and community in recognition of the longstanding ties between Uganda and India.

The conglomerate has been named among the principal sponsors of this year’s event, which will be headlined by Kansai Plascon Uganda.

The sponsorship brings together major players from Uganda’s banking, telecommunications, manufacturing, education, transport, technology, hospitality and logistics sectors, underscoring the growing importance of India Day as both a cultural and business platform.

Other partners include Tembo and Lifeline Steels, Airtel Uganda, TyreXpress, Travelog, Bank of Baroda Uganda, Technology Associates, Empire, Inspiring Solutions, Victoria University, Suzuki by CFAO, Africa Global Logistics and BZolutions Global Private Limited.

India Day has evolved beyond a traditional cultural gathering into a major annual platform where the Indian community and Ugandans celebrate their shared history while highlighting the Indian community’s contribution to Uganda’s economic and social development.

Held around India’s Independence Day on August 15, the event features Indian music, traditional dances, cuisine and entertainment while creating opportunities for business networking, community engagement and social responsibility.

For the Ruparelia Group, the 2026 sponsorship continues a relationship with the celebration that gained particular significance during last year’s event.

The conglomerate was among the organisations that supported the 2025 India Day celebrations at Kololo Independence Grounds, where cultural festivities were combined with a major humanitarian campaign.

The 2025 edition placed children born with congenital heart defects at the heart of the celebrations, with partners mobilising resources to facilitate specialised treatment and life-saving surgeries in India.

The first group of 50 children was earmarked to travel to India for treatment, turning the cultural celebration into an opportunity to directly address a critical healthcare need.

The initiative demonstrated how India Day has increasingly become a platform through which cultural ties can translate into tangible community support.

The Group’s involvement in India Day also reflects its broader engagement with Uganda’s Indian community and the wider public.

Founded by businessman Sudhir Ruparelia, the conglomerate has built interests across real estate, hospitality, education, insurance, agriculture, media and other sectors.

Its portfolio includes Speke Resort and Convention Centre, Speke Hotel, Kampala Parents’ School, Kampala International School Uganda and Victoria University, among other investments.

Through its businesses and the Ruparelia Foundation, the Group has supported initiatives spanning education, healthcare, sports, culture and community development.

Sudhir Ruparelia has also previously served as a trustee of the Indian Association of Uganda, giving him a longstanding connection to community affairs.

The 2026 India Day sponsorship comes at a time when the event is increasingly positioning itself as a bridge between Uganda’s Indian community and the wider Ugandan population.

The participation of companies operating across multiple sectors also reflects the depth of commercial relations associated with the Indian community in Uganda.

From financial services and telecommunications to manufacturing, education, mobility, logistics and technology, the sponsors represent a broad cross-section of businesses contributing to Uganda’s economy.

India Day consequently offers more than an evening of entertainment. It provides a platform to celebrate heritage while recognising entrepreneurship, philanthropy and the contribution of the Indian community to Uganda.

With the Ruparelia Group returning as a principal sponsor, India Day 2026 is expected to once again combine cultural celebration with business engagement and community initiatives.

The event will bring together business leaders, members of the Indian community, government representatives and members of the public for a celebration centred on culture, partnership and community.

For the Ruparelia Group, its continued involvement reinforces the conglomerate’s longstanding commitment to initiatives that promote social development while strengthening the cultural and people-to-people relationship between Uganda and India.
