Victoria University is preparing for a new phase of expansion after Vice Chancellor Prof. Lawrence Muganga unveiled architectural impressions of a proposed campus in Naguru, Kampala, signalling fresh ambitions for the institution under businessman Dr Sudhir Ruparelia’s investment portfolio.
Muganga shared the designs, expressing excitement about turning the vision into a physical learning environment that reflects the university’s focus on modern education, innovation and growth.
“At first glance, you might think someone got a little too creative with AI. But no, these are the actual design impressions of the upcoming Victoria University campus in the heart of Kampala, Naguru to be exact,” Muganga said.
The proposed development is expected to strengthen the university’s infrastructure as it seeks to expand its academic environment and enhance the learning experience for students.
Victoria University operates under the Ruparelia Group, the business conglomerate founded by Sudhir, whose investments span real estate, hospitality, education and other sectors.
The Naguru project adds to the group’s presence in Uganda’s education sector, where private investment has played a role in expanding the range of higher education options available to students.
Established in 2013, Victoria University offers programmes in fields including business, law, health sciences, information technology and social sciences. Its academic approach emphasises practical learning, employability, entrepreneurship and applying classroom knowledge to real-world challenges.
The university has also promoted technology-enabled learning and stronger engagement with industry as it seeks to prepare graduates for a changing labour market.
For Muganga, the proposed campus presents an opportunity to advance that agenda through infrastructure designed to support the institution’s future ambitions. The challenge will be to translate the architectural vision into facilities that effectively support teaching, research, innovation and practical skills development.
For Sudhir, continued investment in education forms part of a wider business portfolio and offers an avenue to contribute to skills development and workforce preparation.
Victoria University currently operates from Victoria Towers along Jinja Road in Kampala. The planned Naguru development signals its intention to continue growing its physical presence in the capital.
However, the university has not publicly disclosed the project’s total construction cost, a detailed list of planned facilities or a confirmed completion date. The unveiling of the designs therefore offers an early glimpse of the project rather than confirmation of when the campus will open.
As plans advance, attention will turn to the construction timeline, the facilities to be developed and how the new campus will support the university’s academic programmes.
For now, the Naguru proposal marks an important statement of ambition for Victoria University as it seeks to strengthen its position in Uganda’s competitive higher education sector.
