By Campus Bee

Makerere University is set to close Lumumba hall for a renovation that is expected to commence soon.

This was revealed in a letter by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe to the Dean of Students, Ms. Winfred Kabumbuli.

According to the VC, government-sponsored students currently accommodated at Lumumba hall, will be required to vacate and occupy other halls,

“Lumumba hall should be closed with immediate effect to pave way for renovation. Government-sponsored continuing students currently accommodated in Lumumba hall should be re-allocated to other halls of residence,” the VC instructed.

Prof. Nawangwe added that the Chief security officer should ensure vacant possession of the hall to pave way for smooth handover of the premises to the contractor.

Established in 1971, Lumumba hall is one of the halls of residence at Makerere University that urgently need renovation due to its filthy condition.

After Lumumba hall, the University will then embark on refurbishing other halls of residence.
