Curse?- Two UPDF Officers Ram Into Train Fleeing After Knocking Three Dead

Kampala: Today's afternoon an army Land Cruiser H4DF2180 rammed into Uganda Railways Locomotive leaving two officers critically ill.

The incident happened at Kinawataka road in Kireka. According to eyewitnesses, the UPDF officers were fleeing after knocking a boda boda--an incident that left three dead on spot.

Police Speaks Out

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, police at Kireka working with fire and rescue services managed to respond to the incident and saved the officers who were stuck inside a shapeless Land Cruizer.

“The fire and rescue services was able to rescue two UPDF soldiers albeit, in very critical condition,” Owoyesigyire said today.

“The two, both privates, have been taken for treatment. The situation at the scene is now contained and normal traffic has resumed,'' adds Owoyesigyire.

Uganda's Accident Record

According to the annual Crime and Safety Report released in 2019 by Martins Okoth Ochola, Inspector General of Police, at least 3,407 people were killed in road accidents in Uganda.

The report revealed that a total of 12,858 road crashes were reported in 2019 compared to 12,805 recorded in 2018.

Ochola added that some 181,960 traffic offenders were arrested for the various offences committed in 2019 and fined under the express penalty scheme, according to the report.
