FIFA, National Referees Undergo Toughest Medical, Fitness Tests At Makerere

According to the Federation of Uganda Football Association, FIFA certified and National Elite Referees over the weekend underwent successful medical and physical fitness tests as preparations for the new season (2020/21) continue.

A total of 52 match officials were subjected to the two-day exercise which began on Friday with medical tests at FUFA Complex before climaxing the following day(Saturday) with physical fitness tests at Makerere University Sports Ground.

The list excludes FIFA Referees Shamira Nabadda, Lydia Nantabo Wanyama and Marex Nakitto Nkumbi who are away on duty at the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Qualifiers in Nairobi, Kenya.

Under the close supervision of National Referees Physical Fitness instructor, Ali Kalyango, the group was subjected to several drills including gauging their sprint ability, speed, mental toughness and endurance among others.

Referees must acquire full training and fitness in order to have excellent football understanding and need to evolve with the game to stay effective and relevant focusing on;

Protecting the safety of players & consistent and uniform application of the Laws of the Game.
